{"id":1178,"date":"2015-03-09T03:00:07","date_gmt":"2015-03-09T07:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.paracletepress.com\/index.php\/gregorian-chant-the-eternal-song-39\/"},"modified":"2015-03-09T03:00:07","modified_gmt":"2015-03-09T07:00:07","slug":"gregorian-chant-the-eternal-song-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.paracletepress.com\/index.php\/gregorian-chant-the-eternal-song-39\/","title":{"rendered":"Gregorian Chant: The Eternal Song"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Cantor<\/p>\n<p><em>Lent III: Sounds from Advent and Pentecost!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Sunday introit for the third week of Lent,\u00a0<em>Oculi mei semper ad Dominum<\/em> (I will my eyes always to the Lord) has audible connection to the introit for the 2nd Sunday of Advent (<em>O People of Zion<\/em>) and the Communion (<em>There came a mighty sound <\/em>) for Pentecost.<\/p>\n<p>During this past Advent, we looked at several pieces whose<strong> incipits<\/strong> (opening motives) could be likened to a trumpet call. It is a unique sound in the chant repertoire and immediately demands your attention. Further, we looked at how this motive often appeared in chants speaking of the kingship of God.<\/p>\n<p>Advent, Lent, and Pentecost are all seasons of waiting &#8212; waiting for the appearance of the Lord, waiting for His action of Resurrection upon our lives, and waiting for the arrival of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 Each of these chants speaks of waiting with excitement and expectation.
