{"id":1562,"date":"2015-08-17T08:16:38","date_gmt":"2015-08-17T12:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.paracletepress.com\/index.php\/gregorian-chant-the-other-half\/"},"modified":"2015-08-17T08:16:38","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T12:16:38","slug":"gregorian-chant-the-other-half","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.paracletepress.com\/index.php\/gregorian-chant-the-other-half\/","title":{"rendered":"Gregorian Chant: The Other Half"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><i>I am the resurrection and the life;\u00a0 he who believes in me, even if he dies, shall live; and all who live and believe in me, shall never die.\u00a0<\/i>(John 11: 25-26).<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>In this Mode 2 antiphon, we hear Jesus&#8217; words of blessed assurance to all who believe. \u00a0Last week we witnessed the\u00a0funeral for one of our Community members, and this text was both chanted and read during the day.<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/of.communityofjesus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ego_Sum_arrows.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5624646 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/of.communityofjesus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ego_Sum_arrows.jpg\" alt=\"Ego_Sum_arrows\" width=\"720\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a>The most characteristic detail of a Mode 2 piece is the clef at the beginning of the piece.\u00a0 Shaped like an old fashioned telephone receiver, it is the FA clef, and is used almost exclusively for this Mode.\u00a0 The reason?\u00a0\u00a0 Mode 2 pieces have a very narrow range; the reciting note is FA and the home tone, RE.
