She requested that the simple <\/span><i><span>Requiem Mass\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span>be chanted.\u00a0 The <\/span><i><span>Kyrie<\/span><\/i><span> is a perfect example of Mode 6\u2014the next in our brief &#8220;tour&#8221; of the Modes and their characteristics.\u00a0Mode 6 has a narrow range, reciting on LA with a home tone of FA. \u00a0As we can see (and hear) in the opening <\/span><i><span>Kyrie<\/span><\/i><span>, the melody passes seamlessly between these structure pitches.\u00a0 We often see the flattened TI, or TAU, in Mode 6 pieces as well.
