{"id":1600,"date":"2015-10-21T09:30:47","date_gmt":"2015-10-21T13:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.paracletepress.com\/index.php\/hearing-joy\/"},"modified":"2015-10-21T09:30:47","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T13:30:47","slug":"hearing-joy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.paracletepress.com\/index.php\/hearing-joy\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearing Joy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>By Sr. Spero<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In the Lauds service this morning, I noticed that the psalm verse familiar to me as \u201cLet me hear\u00a0<em>of<\/em>\u00a0joy\u00a0and gladness\u201d (Psalm 51:8) was translated\u00a0\u00a0\u201cLet me hear\u00a0joy\u00a0and gladness.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0At first I thought it was a mistake.\u00a0\u00a0But then I considered\u2014is this what the Psalmist really meant.\u00a0\u00a0Not\u2014\u201c let someone come to me with good news,\u201d but \u201clet me\u00a0<em>hear\u00a0joy<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Hearing\u00a0joy\u00a0has nothing to do with outward circumstances.\u00a0\u00a0It is an act of the will to listen to the\u00a0joy\u00a0that is surrounding us.\u00a0\u00a0<em>The heavens declare the glory of God.\u00a0<\/em>(Psalm 19:1)\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>The heavens praise your wonders, LORD<\/em>\u00a0(Psalm 89:5).\u00a0\u00a0The Scriptures that that it is there. Do I listen for\u00a0joy?\u00a0\u00a0Do I open my ears to catch it? Not often.
