Look for her new book of poetry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paracletepress.com\/Products\/8593\/almost-entirely.aspx\">Almost Entirely<\/a> this November.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #2a2a2a;\">As the release date (Nov.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #2a2a2a;\">14) for my latest poetry collection,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.paracletepress.com\/Products\/8593\/almost-entirely.aspx\"> <em>Almost Entirely<\/em><\/a>, approaches, I\u2019d like to share a sense of the book and its arcs. Poems are grouped in four sections: When the Wing Gives Way, Somethi<\/span><span style=\"color: #2a2a2a;\">ng for Us to Stand On, One Hundred Footsteps, and Like Light Through the Branches. Ea<\/span><span style=\"color: #2a2a2a;\">ch week until the book&#8217;s release, I will post another poem.<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n\u200b<span style=\"color: #2a2a2a;\">Poems in \u201cWhen the Wing Gives Way,\u201d the first section of <em>Almost Entirely, <\/em>represent a \u201ccoming-out\u201d for me. Many poems in this section are expressions of faith and doubt. These themes may have always informed my poems, but never as overtly as they do here. This one, \u201cThe Wind of God\u2026\u201d takes as its title a line from the Book of Genesis (1:2).<\/p>\n<p>I am always wondering which pronoun to use when referring to God. It is sometimes \u201che\u201d or \u201cshe\u201d or \u201cthey\u201d or even \u201cIt.\u201d Until recently, God was for me an \u201cIt,\u201d a limitless, anonymous (but upper case) expanse that incorporates everything. I am coming lately into an awareness of a personal, less abstract, relation with God. Here is the poem:<\/p>\n<p><em>The Wind of God\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026moved over the face of the waters<\/em>. And after reading this,<br \/>\nthe awareness that, more than once,<br \/>\nGod has turned my head in the right direction,<br \/>\nyet I haven\u2019t seen the gesture for what it is.<\/p>\n<p>The world charges and is charged with a white-hot flame.<br \/>\nI might turn away, but each morning my head is turned for me<br \/>\ntoward a crow\u2019s flight, squirrel passage, or a person<br \/>\nwith whom I share an ever-present reaching toward.<br \/>\nI let myself be turned sometimes. Sometimes<br \/>\nI get into my car and drive away.<\/p>\n<p>Today I picture God\u2019s hand cupped atop my head &#8212;<br \/>\na quiet turning and then receding.<br \/>\nWe are \u2018fine\u2019 with each other.
